A Wonderful Evening !
In a crisp cold summers evening Cara O’ Sullivan, Peter Corry and the Garda band entertained a near full house in UCC’s Quad. In a superbs evenings entertainment Cara’s relaxed demeanor and Peter Corry interacting with the crowd like a native from Cork the crwod warmed to the evening despite the cooler temperatures.
Cara’s voice was a pleasure to hear and she sang a range of classic opera numbers along with crowd pleasers like her final Stand Up and Fight which had the crowd on their feet as if they were at Thomond Park. Peter showed his West End experience with some entrancing numbers from musicals like Les Miserables and Gilbert & Sullivan.
The two together carried off one of the “In The Quads” to date and the students from Ballyphehane added a beautiful addition to the concert when they sang.
Last but not least The Garda Band is bursting with talent rom falutists to singers with their Michael Bublé singer raising one of the loudest applause of the night and the first cries of encore from the crowd.
Well done to Pat Cotter and all the team for once again bringing one of the highlights of the Cork summer entertainment calendar to us again. Already looking forward to next year.

ns. This intimate concert, now in its 6th year takes place on Friday 10th June in UCC.
The spectacular surroundings of UCC’s Main Quad provide the perfect setting for this very special, outdoor, all-seated concert, which boasts an exciting line-up of performers including Ireland’s Premier Operatic Soprano, Cara O’Sullivan and Peter Corry, along with The Band of the Garda Siochána and musical director David Munro. This year’s concert is kindly sponsored by Bam Contractors, Heineken Ireland and media partner the Evening Echo.
The Hope Foundation is one of the beneficiaries of this year’s event, and funds raised will go towards helping the slum children of Calcutta, improving their quality of life, and giving them a brighter future. Currently funding over 60 projects, HOPE reaches out to the most forgotten; offering protection, healthcare, nutrition, education, rehabilitation and a family for life; and to date has reached out to almost 25,000 children through education alone and hundreds of thousands more through primary healthcare, in partnership with Irish Aid.
The other beneficiary is Bee for Battens, a newly founded charity which supports children affected with Batten’s Disease and funds research, whilst also promoting the participation of other Irish children in medical treatment trials. Tony and Mary Heffernan have been fundraising and raising awareness of their plight with Battens Disease following an emotional appearance on The Late Late Show in March 2010. They founded the All Ireland Battens Disease Charity in March 2010 after their daughter Saoirse (aged 4) and their son Liam (aged 2) where both diagnosed with this terminal disease.
Saoirse passed away at age 5 in the arms of her parents on January 18th 2011 from Battens. Liam has under gone potential life saving brain surgery in recent weeks, he is the world’s youngest candidate to partake in the treatment trail and it is hoped that this will give him a chance at life and pave the way for other children with this devastating disease.

Special Olympics
Special Olympics Ireland is a sports organisation for people with an intellectual disability, but it provides athletes with far more than the physical benefits of sport. Special Olympics changes lives. Through sport, athletes develop both physically and emotionally, they make new friends, realise their dreams, and know they can fit in. Special Olympics Ireland enables our athletes to achieve and win not only in sport but in life too.
